Hello. We are having problems with our HIS 2000/SP1 server. Snaprint
suddenly stops and throws an event ID 7031.

Application popup: snaprint.exe - Application Error : The instruction at
"0x77fcc823" referenced memory at "0x005c0054". The memory could not be
"read".

I have confirmed the drivers are all MS and all printers (239 of them) are
defined locally. We applied the HF from KB833832 w/o benefit. Anyone have
a hint? Thanks much for reading.

Peder - you'll need to open a case with MS PSS and, in the first instance,
send them the user.dmp file that gets produced. They may subsequently need an
internal SNA Print trace as well if the dump itself doesn't show the issue
clearly enough.

As the issue is almost certainly a bug with MS code (either SNA Print or MS
Print Drivers), the call to PSS should be free/refunded.

I have seen some similar problems with some of the HP printers. For example I
have seen problems with the HP 9000 and the HP Color Laser printers. Since we
don't print color I removed these and replaced these drivers with HP Laser
Jet 4. This seemed to fix the problem. I have learned to try to stay as basic
as possible with the drivers that are selected. We have over 750 printers all
local queues on HIS and SNA servers and I just went through a major clean up
effort. All printing is stable and for the most part error free.

I have seen similar problems with some of the fancier HP printers. For
example I have seen problems with the HP 9000 series and HP color laser 4000
and 5000 series printers. I removed these drivers and added an HP laserjet 4
instead. This seemed to fix the problem. By keeping the printer drivers as
basic as possible we have been able to keep the SNA printing fairly stable.
