I have a older domain controller that been upgrade to 2003, but I need to
move several users from the older domain to the newer one. Both DC are 2003
but when I am using ADMT v2.0 I get errors. Anyone know what could be the
issue? Here a copy of the log.

Hi WooYing,

The ADMT log has indicated the error:

SID History cannot be updated for kburns. The tool could not locate a
domain controller for the source domain.

2005-05-02 11:12:38 WRN1:7392 SIDHistory could not be updated due to a
configuration or permissions problem.

This error has indicated that the destination domain cannot contact the
source domain, or there is a permission issue.

I suggest you use the following steps to resolve this issue:

1. Check the following KB:
==========================
826896 "SIDHistory Could Not Be Updated Due to a Configuration or
Permissions
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=826896

2. Trust
=================
Make sure the trust has been successfully established and verify the
trust.

3. Permission
==================
1). Add NT Domain Admin to Win2k3Dom Built-in administrators and Win2k3Dom
Domain admins group.
2). Add Win2k3Dom Domain admins group to NT Domain admins group and
built-in administrators group.
3). Create a new account called TEST in the NT domain account, add TEST to
NT built-in administrators group and NT Domain admins group. Therefore,
TEST account will have the full control permission to NT domain every
clients and the DC, it also has the permission on Win2k3Dom DC.

Use TEST to logon to the Win2k3Dom DC to perform ADMT migration.

HTH!

Best regards,

Rebecca Chen

Rebecca

Since my following domain is getting a DHCP address from SHI
DHCP and when I am on a computer and I ping my machine (computer =
wooying-xp) I either get a response of wooying-xp.shi.net when I am using a
computer part of the SHI domain but from anpother computer from the
Accorp.com and I ping it from there I get wooying-xp.accorp.com. It should
be wooying-xp.accorp.com, that is where computer is join. I think that is
causing the issue. What are your thoughs on this? Thanks

Hi WooYing,

I am a little unclear about the environment. According to the name of
wooying-xp, this should be a client machine running windows XP. There are
two domains, one is called shi, another is Accorp; DHCP server is shi
domain.

However, I am not sure where you have installed ADMT, on wooying-xp ? Which
are the source and destination domains? Are the sounce and the destination
domain in the same subnet? Source and destination DCs should have a static
IP addresses instead of a dynamic IP; they should have respectively DNS
servers to hold Accorp and shi domains.

I recommend you install ADMT on the destination domain controller and use
the steps I have mentioned in my initial response to perform the migration
process.

Any update, please post back.

Rebecca Chen

Hi I am migrating on w2k3 domain into another I have the some issues. But I
think it starts with placing the domain admins group from one domain into the
other. I am unable to do this when I try to change locations to do this it
does not give the other domain as an option any suggestions?

Hi,

I was wondering if WooYing ever found a solution to the problem of migrating SIDs. I am having the exact same problem and, for the life of me, cannot get it to work. Crying or Very sad

Thanks!
