Has anyone read any of the sharepoint books and can recommend one. I'm
starting to need more info about administration and modifying web
parts/lists. Sams teach yourself...................... has been released
recently and they are usually quite informative so I was thinking of that |

I'm not sure if a recommendation *from the author* is what Milton was
looking for :)
I now feel able to add my 20 cents.
If you are prepared to spend a lot of time setting up your system (note
"if" - I wasn't), then Microsoft SharePoint: Building Office 2003 Solutions
is a good book that covers everything. (Yes, it's SPS 2003 but with lots of
WSS content)
(Amazon links at
http://www.asaris-matrix.com/mvp-walsh/Lists/WSS%20FAQ/DispForm.aspx?ID=232)
If you are looking for WSS-specific books, in addition to Jim's there are a
few more that are just out or are coming out soon. You'll find a list in
section VIII of the WSS FAQ.
I would have a good look at Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services Step by
Step
(http://www.asaris-matrix.com/mvp-walsh/Lists/WSS%20FAQ/DispForm.aspx?ID=296
) which is due out this month.
(Jim's book last time I looked - a week ago - was due out in March).
Olga Londer gives very clear presentations of technical matter and is likely
to have (as lead) made this a book easy to understand and both Todd Bleeker
(/Todd here in the newsgroup) and James Edelen know a lot of the details.

Hi
Have to agree with you, the Microsoft SharePoint: Building Office 2003
Solutions was early released thou it
covers the most. And i relly like the quite unusual way its written, not
that 2000page reference book many are used to, intead it gives
you a more "usefullyness-oriented" reading, pointing at how this and that
can help you with business tasks. Still its very hands on with good
examples.
Best regards

A third vote for this book, with the same caveats and one addendum: there
are a bunch of new titles on their way including Jim's. It will be
interesting to see what they have to say: the second generation is often
better than the first.

I have the Resource Kit and it's almost entirely oriented around
administration -- I was more insterested in development... The tips
above are helpful. thanks. |
