How do I make groups available accross sites that are
stored in separate data bases on the same virtual server?

Either:

o Define them as cross-site groups from the top-level site's Top-level Site
Administration page, and then add the cross-site groups (as if they were
users)
to each subsite group, or

o Define them as domain global groups and then add the domain groups (as if
they were users) to each subsite group.
