Hi. I apologize in advance if this is common knowledge -- I did search
first, but didn't find the results I need.

Using WSS, I have a site in which anonymous users can see some public data.
Once they have authenticated, however, I need them to see slightly different
data. In other words, I want various web parts on the page to display, or
not, based on the authentication status of the current user.

I have searched pretty carefully, and haven't found a way to show or hide
webparts based on whether the user is anonymous or not. In asp.net, I would
just write code to hide the content if the user isn't authenticated, but
being new to this, I don't see how to do that in WSS.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks -- Ken

You can't do this with the product as delivered (even by twitching it).

The only way would be by coding it yourself.

If you want to follow that approach please post this message to the
subnewsgroup for WSS programming issues at

microsoft.public.sharepoint.windowsservices.development

as you no doubt know, once someone can access a site / sub-site / document
library they see in the standard product exactly the same links etc. as
everyone else who can access the site/subsite/doc lib *irrespective* of
authentication level.

The only approach that comes near without coding is to set up web part pages
containing web parts that are in fact WSS lists. Only people with rights to
*all* of the lists behind those web parts (and this only applies to those
list types such as doc libs for which you can restrict access) will be able
to access that web part page.
