How to 'Release' a document |
|
|
Many facets of Document Management seems built into WSS, but one which
I cannot get my head wrapped around is how one would 'release' a
document (making it read-only).
Surely this is a common need? Basically one would like to be able to
create a document, have it approved for instance and then "lock" it to
avoid future modifications.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank You! |

You can set the option on a document library that an adminstartor needs to
approve a document before it is available to all users.
A user who has the rights to make changes to a document can however make
changes to documents at any time.
In my opinion there are a couple of basic functions missing to use it as a
document management system:
1) Document status such as draft and fnal.
2) Document workflow to route the document through a change process.
3) User right are set on document library level instead of document level.
If you can life with this limitations then WSS is a good product.
The answer is a liitle bigger then your question, but I just wanted you to
give my opinion.

Thanks Marco.
I wonder if there are any ISV's that offer this?
I know that Teamcenter Community from UGS allows for
item(document)-level security...but it still aint release/draft/final,
etc.
Perhaps a solution could be put together here...
