Modify existing template and apply changes |
|
|
I created a customized template that I then used on several workspaces. I now
need to go back and modify that template to include a footer and apply that
change to the workspaces that use the template.
My first question is how do you modify a template that you've already
created?
and second
Once you change the template will the workspaces that use that template
automatically pick up the change or do you need to go and "reapply" the
template, which would in theory knock out any page to page customizations
that have also been made? |

Revise the site from which you created the original template, then save the
site as a template once again.

Changing a template won't update any sites created from that template. You
choices are to edit and correct the existing sites one by one, or blow them
away and recreate them.
To avoid such choices, you can either:
o Create site definitions rather than site templates. However, site
definitions
are significantly more difficult to create. You have to manipulate a lot
of
XML code by hand.
o Anticipate the areas where changes might occur, and implement them
as Web Parts rather than static HTML.

Jim:
Thanks so much. While not the answer I was hoping for your information was
clear and concise. Better planning on my part would definitely help in the
future.
