There are two nodes with Windows 2003 Ent MS cluster with SQL server on
cluster on shared storage (EMC CLARIION CX500 SAN). Each server has two HBA
EMULEX adapters and EMC PowerPath software. HBA driver version 5.2.21.7
dated 9/17/2003.

The cluster administrator indicates that the second node is down and the
public & private network is unavailable. But we are able to ping both the
public network and private network and also we are able to open the cluster
administrator in the second node.

EventID 1209; source ClusDisk - Cluster service is requesting a bus
reset for device \Device\ClusDisk0.
EventID 118; source symmpi- driver for device \Device\Scsi\symmpi2
performed a bus reset upon request.

What could be the reason and any possible solution for the same.

Need an urgent reply.

Thanking you in advance with Regards

Where are you pinging the public/private network from? Can you ping the
gateway from the second node? Is your Public interface configured to handle
all communications (Mixed Network - Public and Inter-Node (Private)?

I'm unsure if you fixed this (given your original post was a while back), but I have just been having the same problem with a Windows 2003 cluster running on an HP EVA 4000.

After much poking around in the OS I narrowed it down to the firewall service. Although the firewall was off in control panel it was still causing the cluster service to not see the other node thus resetting the FC card as a diagnostic step, after disabling and stopping the firewall service all the errors have gone away.
