Hello,

We set a bunch of the crawled document properties to be displayed in the
item details in search results. The problem is that the item details only
seem to want to show a set limit of properties.

At first I thought it was that these documents did not have values for the
properties not showing, but the property Area stopped being displayed and all
of the documents are in Areas.

Is there a limit to the number of properties that the item details will
display? Will I have to write a custom web part to show more?

BTW, I tried dropping and rebuilding the content index from scratch and no
luck.

TIA!

Hi Brian,

Do you mean the properties number in search result is limited? Is this
searching result, you mentioned , the detailed searching result?

Expect to your reply!

Hey Wei-Dong!

Hope you are doing well!

When the search results come back and then we click the Item Details link.
The page loads and should be displaying all of the properties flagged as
"Display this property in item details in search results" in Test Portal >
Site Settings > Manage Properties of Crawled Content > Edit Property, but it
only shows a handful of those properties.

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Brian,

Thank you for providing the detailed scenario information!

Have you performend a full crawl on the portal content index after your
setting on the custom properties? After the searching and indexing setting,
we will need to perform one update so that the search result will reflect
the changing.

"shows a handful of those properties"
If full crawl is applied, have you checked whether the displayed properties
are the new added or the original properties?

Expect your reply!

Hi Wei-Dong,

I actually dropped the entire index and rebuilt it because I thought the
same thing. I will need to double check the properties to be sure which ones
are showing and which ones not (old or new). But we easily set around 25
properties to show on the Item Details and there is no more than 10 or so on
any given document.

The more puzzling part is that a property like Area is not there and it is
one of the defaults. That is why it seems like there is a limit perhaps
weighted toward non-default properties defined for display in Portal >
Site Settings > Manage Properties of Crawled Content > Edit Property.

Take Care,

Brian

Hi Brian,

From my research, this behavior is by design. If we set a bundle of custom
properties to be displayed at the search result. Only a little will be
shown, not all. This appears to be limited by Sharepoint. Since no any
public documentation describes this issue. I have recorded this issue in
internal database.

Greatly appreciate your reporting and troubleshooting on this issue! Please
feel free to let me know if you have any question.

Hi Wei-Dong,

Do you know if this can be extended as a custom web part similar to
extending the search results?

Thanks!
