Server 2003 event 1058 |
|
|
I keep getting the following Application Event error on one of my 2 domain
controllers:
Userenv Error None 1058 NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM DC Windows cannot access the
file gpt.ini for GPO
CN={31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=promoshop,DC=int.
The file must be present at the location
<Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\gpt.ini>. (Access is denied.
). Group Policy processing aborted.
Knowledgebase article 830676 documents this and suggests a fix using dfsutil
/PurgeMupCache. This causes the error to cease until I reboot the second
domain controller at which time it reoccurs on the primary dc. Any ideas what
is the root of the problem and, more importantly, how to resolve it? |

Hi Don,
Can you post the ipconfig/all from both servers?

Hi Don,
You are missing WINS on both servers. Is the Backup acting as a member
server or additional DC? If the latter, do you have DNS server installed on
it?

Hmm, it shows in the Manage Your Server screen that they are Wins servers. I
checked the configuration of our sister company's servers that are Wins
servers and they appear just as mine. Could this be only for SBS? My servers
are Windows Server 2003 Standard, I'm just posting here because I couldn't
find a newsgroup specifically for Server 2003.
Anyway, do you beleive that the error I'm getting is related to Wins? I
remember at one point getting an event (which, sadly I've since deleted)
mentioning something about the Backup server thinking it was the master. Is
there some setting that designates one DC as master over the others?

Re: Server 2003 event 1058 |

Ho Marina, here's an update on my problem. I found the solution from a post I
left in Ilopia. Apparently this is a known server 2003 error which can be
resolved either by a Microsoft patch which you have to call to get or by the
following manual fix (which I used and it works):
Edit the hosts file on EACH domain controller. Put in the IP address for
your domain controller (the local IP address should be first in the list) --
and then next to the IP address do NOT put the host name, but put the name of
the domain. Then list the IP address for EACH domain controller in your
domain on that same hosts file (with the domain name next to it). In other
words, your hosts file should look like this (if you have just two domain
controllers):
121.121.121.121 yourdomainname.com
121.121.121.122 yourdomainname.com
Where 121.121.121.121 = the ip address of the local domain controller for
THIS hosts file. Where 121.121.121.122 = the ip address of your OTHER domain
controller yourdomainname.com = the name of your domain The list would be
reversed (as far as IP address) on the hosts file on the other domain
controller. Yes, you need a hosts file on EACH domain controller.
Just thought I'd pass this along in case anybody else in this newsgroup is
experiencing the same issue.
Thanks again for your help :-)

Actually, both are wins servers. Do they need wins in their ip
configuration
as well?
Both DC and Backup are domain controllers.
Both are DNS servers.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.

Hi Don,
You are missing WINS on both servers. Is the Backup acting as a member
server or additional DC? If the latter, do you have DNS server installed
on
it?

here they are. The server that keeps getting the error id DC and the
server
that causes it when rebooted is BACKUP.

I keep getting the following Application Event error on one of my
2
domain
controllers:
Userenv Error None 1058 NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM DC Windows cannot
access
the
file gpt.ini for GPO
CN={31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=promoshop
,DC=int.
The file must be present at the location
Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\gpt.ini>. (Access
is
denied.
). Group Policy processing aborted.
Knowledgebase article 830676 documents this and suggests a fix
using
dfsutil
/PurgeMupCache. This causes the error to cease until I reboot the
second
domain controller at which time it reoccurs on the primary dc. Any
ideas
what
is the root of the problem and, more importantly, how to resolve
it?
