Frustrating; need some technical insight |
|
|
Is there any out there that has fixed the problem of:
0x80040D1A - The protocol handler cannot be found. Check that the handler
has been installed.
I am trying to set up a search and index. When I try to run a portal
content update. I get the previous message.
I contacted Microsoft Premier support. After running through all their
hoops, their answer was to reload the software. I did that and restored the
website and still get this error. I am running on a med. server farm (2
front end and one backend database server). I have the latest software and
service packs installed and in the order MS recommended. Still no luck. Can
anyone out there is the real world help? thank you

As far as I can tell, this happens when you have FP2002 on your box when you |
install WSS and SPPS. The only corrective advice I have seen is to uninstall
SPPS, then WSS, uninstall FP2002, install WSS, and SPPS. What I haven't found
out is whether or not one need to reformat the partition and then reinstall
everything to get it to work. Were you careful to make sure FPSE2002 was not
installed when you reinstalled WSS and SPPS?

But, you did install the Application Server Role, didn't you? That does |
install FPSE2002 on the default web site. Check in the Application Server,
under the IIS manager, and in the Web Service Extensions. If it is listed
there and allowed, I think it has been installed. Also, check the
properties of the default web site.

That is unfortunate. It's looking like the partition needs to be reformatted |
and everything reinstalled. Bummer.

Hollis D. Paul,
I do not have any front page versions on the machines hosting SPS and WSS
and no front end extensions were installed. I have reinstalled the software
and applied the service packs and still does not work. I looking in to how
to install and register protocol handlers. Microsoft Premier support has not
been able to come up with any solution as of yet. Go figure....

I made sure to verify that the FPE2002 were not checked when I installed and
currently the FPE 2002 is not checked.

Re: Frustrating; need some technical insight |

I think I saw this myself when I was initially setting up my SPS dev server.
It turned out I was using the wrong domain account to crawl the site.
After looking around, it seems like this might also be a missing DLL, for
example mssph.dll (in the /bin/ folder of Sharepoint, in Program Files) or
one of it's dependancies. Lex van der Sluijs posted about this on a site
forum I looked at. You might try registering the DLL manually with
'regsvr32 mssph.dll' and if that fails, then download Dependency Walker
from:
http://www.fastwrite.com/DvlOnly/downloads/ThisDownload.cfm?RID=206
Then you can look to see what's missing and preventing the crawl.
There are some other logfiles in sharepoint that may indicate what the real
problem is.
Good luck!

Tom, |
I can now report that uninstalling FP2002, SPS2003, WSS2003, and IIS from my
Win2003 server, and then reinstalling IIS, WSS2003, SPS2003, and applying SP1
to WSS and then SPS, did cure my problems with search. I am now able to
crawl external sources and get results from search.
