Is Your IIS healthy? Test Your server before You install SPS 2003. Does it
open the "Uder construction" page?

This is just cross-checking but gives You some kind of background info about
the failure.

Why the port number? Did you tell it to install there? Usually a port
number like that is for the Admin tools.

During the installation sharepoint portal will prompt u for a user to key in
as administrator for the portal. This user is suppose to be at least a Power
User.

Make sure that you are not using a local administrator for this user as this
will confuse IIS and Sharepoint. Maybe you might want to create another user
with exclusive power-user rights for this purpose.

After you've done that try logging into your server as a local
administrator.....

then access the page from there.... you should be granted access after
that.... go to the central administration site, create your portal and after
which u can use the power user account to administrate the portal site you
created

if you use the power user account to access the central administration site
you'll be blocked by IIS but not sharepoint...
