SPS and Host headers |
|
|
Is this possible to use hostheaders for SPS. I have a bunch of subsites one
for each different groups and would like to give them more friendlier names,
is this possible to have host headers set up with SPS.
Where can I get more information on this.
Are there any known issues with this? |

That seems like alot of work...but can be done.
If WSS Sites, then create your IIS virtual server first then provision with
site
If in SPS, capture URL (copy/paste) - create your Virtual Server and have it
redirected to the previusly captured URL

Actually what its for is for external users to access the subsites, since
they dont have access to the internal network I must use these names.
Any ideas?

So to clarify, you are only doing this to allow users to access internal
contents? If so, I would suggest just hosting the same content as a
external portal.
For example - have the content be available for internal URL and external -
TWO different Portals - internal portal and external portal - but same
contents. I would do this instead because it would be a nightmare trying to
keep up with the various virtual directories/ servers and URLS between the
two - if you had only ONE additional portal that mirrors internal then it
would be easier to administer. Also, you can use granularity in your
security for external content. hope this helps.

Go to MDSD.com - they have an article that discusses this.
