Mapping file through IIS, deleted web site, need to get back |
|
|
Hi,
I have a 2003 web server, which had a default site on port 80 which worked
fine.
The next thing I installed sharepoint portal server and created a new portal
site. This site was created on port 80 and I was told that it would
overwrite anything that was already there.
This is fine, except when I go into the properties of the port 80 website
the home directory points to the old location, yet a sharepoint portal site
has been created.
I am a little confused how this occured, surely the site should look first
in the Home directory.
I am aware SPS stores content in a database but I am confused how this
relates to the IIS mapping,
so my question is when a new sps site is created on a web site why is the
Home directory (as defined in IIS) ignored??
can I delete the SPS site that I just created (perhaps from sharepoint
central administration) so I can revert to my original, which appears to
have not been overwritten at all.
Perhaps there is something strange going on with ISAPI filters or http
handlers
any advice is appreciated.
cheers

I would of left the DEFAULT Site alone and just created an IIS virtual
server. So, when I created my SPS Portal or even WSS Sites - I just point
it to the appropriate Virtual Server

well I would have left the DEFAULT site alone too had a figured that I would
not now be able to delete the SPS site that I have replaced it with.
I found the option that lets me delete a SPS site, and this appeared to
work, but got half way through and then stopped, giving an error.
Now I am stuck with an SPS site that dose not work on port 80, I can neither
repair ot or re-install it and even remove it, maybe I need to go into the
config database and delete it there.
anybody gone any ideas on how to remove an sps site from the server.
I have another site on port 817 that works just fine.
cheers
martin.
