We're about to implement MOM 2005. We've MOM 2000 SP1 running on a
dedicated box, and agents installed on approx 45 servers. We're going
to go for a clean install - i.e. rebuild the MOM server with MOM 2005.
We can remove the agents manually from the other servers, and install
2005 agents, but...is there any other "cleanup" recommended, other than
just simply removing the agents?
Thanks for any advice

The newly-released MOM 2005 Operations Guide has a tool you can run. See
chapter 8 "", page 8. There is a tool to remove SP1 agents and to clean up
the old Config groups that might make the transition smoother.

You can download the Operations Guide at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=A0E40758-CAB8-4588-B0F2-1508D84906CC&displaylang=en

Besides the tools suggested by James, you also might look at the 'old'

MOM 2000 SP1 ops guide chapter 8:
http://tinyurl.com/6p45y
and in chapter 7 thers is something about uninstalling the dcam

Thanks for that, James and Arie.

I don't have to worry about the server/database - we're wiping the lot
and starting afresh. I just need to be sure that the agents on the
currently monitored servers are uninstalled cleanly, and that there's
nothing left which will affect the MOM2005 agent install.

I found this on www.mcse.ms :

"What I have found to work is the following sequence of steps
(understanding
that not all are immediately possible on production systems)
1. sc stop onepoint (to stop the service on the mom2k agent)
2. sp1uninstallagent
3. Open Windows Explorer and delete the install directory. (You will
likely
find that 3 files prevent you from deleting the entire directory as
they are
still in use by the o/s)
4. Open Regedt32 and delete the Mission Critical Systems registry key
(assuming you don't have other NetIQ products installed)
5. Reboot the server and delete all remaining directories."

I'm not sure about steps 4 and 5 above. Yes, there is a Mission
Critical Systems key in the registry of the monitored servers, but
there's no reference to Onepoint or MOM within that key, and I'm very
wary of deleting it, esp. on "important" servers. Should I simply
remove all reference to Onepoint and MOM from the registry?

Thanks again for any assistance with this (we've had huge problems
recently, major, nay catastrophic hardware failure, lost large portions
of the SAN, we're up and running again, and the last thing I want to do
is rock the boat!!)

Thanks again for your help, Arie....I'm sorry to labour the point, but
is it (Mission Critical Software registry key) used ONLY by MOM and
absolutely nothing else?
