State change on missing event possible? |
|
|
Hi
Is it possible to enable state view on a "missing event" rule?
I have fooled around with it a bit and it doesn't seem to be possible, why
is that?
I need it to monitor some backup software, and a missing event would
indicate an error.
In the future this feature will be used to monitor lots of stuff.
I need the state view because that we want to forward the stateview to CA
UniCenter.
Best regards

Hi Søren:
Thanks for reporting this issue! I'm sorry to say that as per MOM 2005, we
do not support changing the state based on missing event due to the
following.
-- There is no way to revert the red state back to green when the event
actually occurs in the next missing event time frame.
We would like know your exact scenario to evaluate the necessary for
changing this design. I would apprecitate if you could provide little more
information on your issue and why you feel this design could add more value
to your enviroment.
Thanks for your time!

Re: State change on missing event possible? |

Hi again.
My exact senario i Tivoli TSM backup clients which I wish to monitor..
They perform a daily file backup and a SQL TDP backup every 2 hours.
The only way i can see if the backup have runned as scheduled is via the
event log (it dumps an event)
Now the problem comes when it doesn't run, if it doesn't run there is no
event.
In that case it would be nice to change the state to yellow or red depending
on for how long it's been missing.
SQL backup success event missing for say 4 hours would make the state
yellow, a whole day red for exampel.
Depending on how the "missing event" function works that should be possible.
That leads to another question, when does the missing event function check
the event log, constantly or ??
Hope i made my self clear, this would be of great help to me later on, I
work at bigger firm with 1200+ servers which should be monitored in the long
run, should i could imagine that we could benefit from this function when
disigning our own management packs.
The plan is to monitor all applications which are more or less vital to the
buisness. (which ends up been quite a few :-)
Best regards

Hi Søren:
Thanks again for your time to explain your scenario. I'll take necessary
action to solve this issue in our next release.
Regarding your question:
| Quote: | That leads to another question, when does the missing event function check
the event log, constantly or ??
The missing event rule requires a time interval to watch for the missing |
event. For Example: Every Day from 12:00-12:05. In this scenario, the
missing event rule will be triggered at 12:00 and if there is no event till
12:05 it'll raise the missing event.

Hi
That sounds great, thanks a lot for your support :-)
MOM just keeps getting better and better ;-)
By the way, will there be support for creating and managing the server role
for the state view in the next version (SP1 I guess)??
As I see it the only to do it right now is by using the MP wizard, and as of
rigth now it's impossible to delete the ones you've created once you have
imported the MP.

There is more good news!
We've published a SQL Script for deleting unwanted Server Roles and
Components. This Script is available with the PSS. Please make a call to PSS
and get them. As this is a known issue, you won't be charged for this call.
Also, we'll ensure that this feature gets added to the tools used for
creating of Server Role & Components in the next release.
Thanks again for all your feedback.
