How can I create an event rule w/notification to alert me when ANY service
set to automatic has stopped? And how can I set up that alert to notify me
when the service has restarted?

I created and also tried to modify the WMI event to have MOM alert when ANY
service set to Automatic has a state change from running to stop. When I
applied the rule I get slammed with emails/pages from every service on every
agent saying that the service has gone from unknown to running. I have to
disable the service to stop this.

That will happen the first time it queries each of your services if you have
setup a notification to tell you when the state changes to running. I'm not
sure if you want this or not; I'm assuming you want notifications on your
services starting as well as when they stop. Change your rule that queries
for services that are running, to only generate an alert if the state is
running, and the previous state was either stopped or stopping. This will
filter out any events where the previous state was unknown because it hadn't
been queried previously.

See the article previously posted for how to specify the previous state.

Removing wmimgmt causes all event for all services to combine. Has anyone
overcome this problem?
