db2 drivers |
|
|
Are the db2 drivers that come with HIS 2000 compatible with the new DB2
version 8 database. I have a script that runs daily, in Tampa, to access (my
parent company in Canada) DB2 database v7. It was running without a flaw
until now.
I am getting connection errors ever since our parent company upgraded their
DB2 database from v7 to v8.Should I upgrade to HIS 2004? |

Were it only so simple. Yes, I saw that last year and applied the patch, but
it did not fix my problem. I opened an issue with Microsoft Support.
Initially, the Support person, Imelda (a very helpful person), said that
Development acknowledged the problem and that they'd have a solution for me
in about a month. After 3 months of nagging poor Imelda, suddenly those
developers made an about face and said that there never was a problem. I
dropped it at that time because we had figured out this work around and HIS
2004 was coming out soon and the ads claimed that DB2 connections would be
soooo much better. Well, I still can't create a pkg directly on a v8 base,
and since I'm a Windows/SQL Server developer, not a DB2/AIX developer, I
haven't a clue how to do it.

It doesn't mention AIX specifically, but that would probably be the same
problem. The fix should be included in HIS 2000 SP2 which will be out
shortly, or you can contact tech support (http://support.microsoft.com) to
obtain the fix and give it a try on your system.

If your error is "The current SQL statement cannot be completed
successfully.
SQLSTATE:58004, SQLCODE: -901" then, No, updating to HIS 2004 will not fix
your problem. This problem is a result of not being able to create a
package
on the DB2 instance. I got it last year when we moved to DB2 v8 using HIS
2000, and was able to overcome it by creating a v7 instance of the same
name
and federating it to the v8 instance. Once the package was created we
could
blow away the v7 instance. I recently downloaded HIS 2004, hoping to be
avoid that ugly kluge, but I still can't directly create a package on the
DB2(AIX) v8 base.
If there are any DB2 Gurus out there: Please help me figure out why I
can't
create a pkg using the HIS 2004 tools. I'm using the instance name for my
username and password in my UDL file.

Leida,
The HIS2004 drivers are definitely v8 compatible. I think the HIS2000 one's
aren't supported though may work in some circumstances - obviously not yours!!!

Re: db2 drivers |

Julia-
I'm really sorry to hear that we did not fix your problem, in fact that
sounds like a strange answer from our development team. I did a bit of
research and found your support case and the help request that was raised
with the development team. In my opinion it looks like it was simply not
raised with the right priority when it went to the dev team. In general if
there is a legitimate bug and it is raised with the development team with
the correct status and priority it should not get closed as "won't fix".
I would like to see us fix this problem for you. Would it be possible for
you to open another support request since you can still reproduce the
problem? I can get a bug into the system now, but without a customer tied to
the bug we will not produce a hotfix for the problem. When you do call in,
let the support engineer that you get know that you've been talking with me
and I will work with them to make sure this gets the correct priority this
time.
Thanks!

Re: db2 drivers |

Leida-
If you're running DB2 V8 on Windows you should contact support to get the
fix I mention below.
If you're running DB2 V8 on AIX, you should contact support so that we can
try and get the problem fixed for you.
If you're running DB2 V8 on a mainframe, than you should also probably
contact support so that we can help troubleshoot the problem and try and
find a resolution.
Basically, I think contacting our support team is the best step for you
right now. You can get your local contact numbers for support by going to
http://support.microsoft.com and clicking on the contact us link. Make sure
the country is set correctly so that you get the correct contact
information.
