CS2000 to CS2002 upgrade process |
|
|
Hello,
We have CS2K site based on the retail solution site. We now wish to upgrade
to CS2002, but on a new server. So far, we've installed CS2002 on the new
server, and now we'd like to move over the classic ASP site. We see there
are two ways to handle:
Install CS2002 solution site, then copy CS2000 code.
or--
Create a PUP on CS2000 and then unpackage in CS2002
Which is the best way to do it. We found a rather confusing section in the
CS upgrade guide below. Has anyone tried this process and can offer tips or
specific procedure?
Thanks!!

Unpacking Commerce Server 2000 Solution Sites on Commerce Server 2002
If you have Commerce Server 2000 Solution Sites (the Retail or Supplier
sites) that need to be unpacked after you install Commerce Server 2002, you
must perform the following steps.
Note In this example, you are unpacking a Commerce Server 2000 Retail
Solution Site on Commerce Server 2002.
1.. Install Commerce Server 2002.
2.. Install the Commerce Server 2000 Solution Sites.
3.. Use the Custom Unpack option to unpack the Commerce Server 2000
Retail.pup package.
4.. Exclude the App Default Config resource.
5.. Exclude the Commerce Server 2000 RetailBizDesk application.
6.. Use the Custom Unpack option to unpack the Commerce Server 2002
Blank.pup package or Retail.pup package.
7.. Add the following resources: BDSecurity and App Default Config.
8.. Add the BlankBizDesk application and rename the v-root to
"RetailBizDesk"-or if you are using the Commerce Server 2002 Retail.pup
package, unpack the RetailBizDesk application.
9.. To open a command prompt window, click Start, point to Programs, point
to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
10.. Run the CS2002Upgrade.exe tool, located in the <local drive>:\Program
Files\Microsoft Commerce Server 2002\Upgrade folder, to view the list of
resources that need to be upgraded. The list contains:
a.. Transactions Config
b.. Product Catalog
11.. Run the migration tool to upgrade the two resources. For example:
CS2002Upgrade.exe -G -C |

Hey Dean,
We traditionally use the blank site pup to setup the defaults along with
any custom profile scripts for SQL if needed and the copy the
files/components over. Just make sure to excluded the csapp.ini file from
the original site. You might also find the need to make some code changes
depending on how the ASP site was originally implemented so test well.
Just to recap,
1) unpup the Blank.pup on the CS2002 box so that it creates the default site
and configuration for you.
2) Perform the db and site upgrades so that the BizDesk (or the new
Catalog/Discount Manger in FP1) will work.
3) Copy files from site over ( minus the csapp.ini)
4) Export you catalog from the old site into the new site
5) TEST :)
NOTE: This option starts you out with clean databases so you don't have to
upgrade them. You however also don't migrate the history forward which if
needed, you'll have to follow the steps below or DTS the information over.

Better way would be to
Install CS2K2 on the CS2000 box.
Follow the steps to migrate the site such as running the migration tool.
Package the site
Now unpackage this site on which ever box you want.
Thanks

Re: CS2000 to CS2002 upgrade process |

Hello,
We thought of that, but it would be risky since the CS2000 box is a
production server and there can be no down time if something doesn't work
correctly. Besides, one of the goals of this upgrade project is to use a
more powerful server environment, and then retire the old CS2000 server once
the transition is complete.
Are you saying that we can install CS2002 on our production CS2000 server
and be up in less than 1 hour withouth any compatibility problems or issues
whatsoever? I didn't know it was that trivial to upgrade from CS2K to
CS2002. Please advise.
