getting sip errors and sign on problems with messgr through lcs 2005.
Set up Lcs 2005/messenger on network to test. 2 other guys and I are all
having similar problems connecting to the messenger. ocassionaly the other 2
guys can connect but have trouble seeing who is online and who isnt. It
doesn't seem to show the online or offline presences correctly. I just set up
my account today and tried to connect. I am getting errors saying
orensonh@affs.local could not be added. please try again later. Or sometimes
when trying to add I get a error adding. try again later. Then, when I do a
search for same person using the search feature it finds them but errors out
("your search failed for an unkown reason")when i click on their name and
click next. Now after I have been added to domain, etc one of the other users
has tried to log on that could before and it is giving him a password error. |

LCS 2005 Enterprise Edition or Standard Edition?
If EE, are you connecting to the pool name or to the server name?
If SE are you using TCP, TLS, or a mixture?

If I am reading this correctly are we talking about Windows Messenger
logging into both LCS and MSN?
If so, you need to separate these actions while troubleshooting, log in to
only one service and fix that first. So... are you configured for both a
.NET and SIP alias? Which one is the problem? If it is the SIP alias, then
let's work that here.
You cannot log into Messenger with SIP and IM a .NET user (not until LCS
2005 SP1 releases and you pay for the feature <grin>)
Enable RTCDLL logging for both users in question and send the output for
review.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Tracing\RTCDLL]
"EnableFileTracing"=dword:1
"FileDirectory"= C:You have to EXIT the WM5 client, and when you restart a
file with the name RTCDLL*.log

we're not using .net user. Just a standard user. We set up LCS 2005 on a dev
environment. Having no problem as far as i know with the actual LCS part,
just with the messenger. When checking event logs, etc there appears to be no
errors for LCS or SIP.Tried to log in again this morning and got an error
saying sip service is temp unavailable. WHY???shut down messenger and
restarted client. Now it let me log in but still having problems with sending
messages. says message can not be delivered when i try to send
message.??????????

Joe:
Can you tell me a little bit about the clients that you are using?
The client OS (XP?) and domain that the system is added do (DEV or
Production)
Version of Windows Messenger (5.0 or 5.1) you are using
The DNS servers (and OS) that it is pointing back to (whether this is all in
a segmented lab or if the clients are on one domain and accessing the dev
domain from a production workstations)
If you using production DNS servers, if you are using a hosts file for the
systems to connect to LCS or if you are using a stub zone in DNS.
DEV Client -> LCS -> DEV Client
Have you added the SIP namespaces for your local domain and your STMP
namespace at the forest level (right-click the forest name in the LCS 2005
MMC..it is the first dialog)? I find that the .local (or AD FQDN) is
installed by default. This and the aformentioned DNS information generally
clears up sign-in errors.
I noticed that we have two threads and everyone has been working between the
two threads. I have read both of those threads. Sorry if I have duplicated
any information. I picked it back out of Google, but I might not have seen
all the the responses to date. Google usually takes a day or two to catalog
them. (For some reason I must have whacked the initial thread out of my
newsreader thinking that it was an MSN user or spam... generally if there
are more than 2 bang (!) charachters I filter it.

That key should be there. I realize that I did not mention that this is a
client side registry change and this should be on the client machine with
Windows Messenger Installed.
If you find the key is missing, you can create it yourself however, there
are many other values under the RTCDLL key besides the one I gave. I would
suggest downloading and installing Windows Messenger 5.1 if not already in
use as one alternate way to get the keys populated.

If so, you need to separate these actions while troubleshooting, log in
to
only one service and fix that first. So... are you configured for both a
.NET and SIP alias? Which one is the problem? If it is the SIP alias,
then
let's work that here.
You cannot log into Messenger with SIP and IM a .NET user (not until LCS
2005 SP1 releases and you pay for the feature <grin>)
Enable RTCDLL logging for both users in question and send the output for
review.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Tracing\RTCDLL
EnableFileTracing (Change from 0 to 1)
It should store the information in C:\Documents and
Settings\YourUsername\Tracing (it's actually a %userprofile% variable).
That key should be in there when Messenger installs. If not, can you
reinstall messenger?
There is a Tracing that is part of HKLM, but it does not contain the RTCDLL

This should be well timed then, send the rtcdll0.log file from the failed
logon.
I would point out that most problems are due to the various items mentioned
in the error, but the log will be our best help for now.

We have two threads on this subject.
In reviewing each, I was about to ask the same question Dhigha was going to
ask - multiple IP addresses on the LCS server.
The other question to ask is about route tables for the clients.
For now I would suggest that we let this thread stop and continue instead
with the thread
Important MESSENGER ERROR.
Thanks
