LCS 2005 connectivity with AOL/YAHOO |
|
|
At this moment, can a user on the internet using AOL or Yahoo Instant
Messenger communicate with a user on Live Communication Server 2005 in the
Enterprise?

No sir,
There is no public information on this at this time. Trust me, if you know
of the feature I doubt you will miss any announcement of the pending
solution/functionality.

I didn't think so. I was told this wouldn't be available until Spring with
LCS 2005 SP1. I guess I have to go with AKONIX then. They have IM Gateway
solution that would supposedly take care of this.
Thanks!

Charlie:
You may also want to talk with IMLogic as well. Akonix and IMLogic are two
of the larger players in the IM Gateway solutions.
The problem that I have found is that their systems don't actually integrate
with LCS or Lotus IBM's IM and Web Collaboration (formerly Sametime) to
provide an all-in-one proxy between LCS (or IBM IM) and AOL or LCS (or IBM
IM) and Yahoo!. IBM Lotus actually integrated with AOL at one time, but cut
the functionality.
The benefit I have found with IMLogic is that it does allow for the
monitoring controls to be met via archiving the "main 3" plus the LCS.
Again, it acts as a proxy and does not allow our users to send a message
from their Windows Messenger, through LCS. to AOL. In all cases the AOL,
Yahoo!, and MSN/WM clients still have to be installed on the workstation.
(The IM websites may need to be blocked since that traffic could not be
monitored.)
I think that we are all riding in the same ship here as the non-public
announcement that you mentioned covers what a true gateway product sitting
on an LCS back-end could do.
