I am testing the sbs 2000. When I installed it to load Outlook 2002, I don't
have the CD on my hand. So, I skipped it. Now, I want to install the Ourlook
from my Office XP CD. Can I install the Outlook from XP CD How do I do this?
Do I just install it from Run>Setup?

MS Strongly recommend that you -DO NOT- install outlook on a machine
running Exchange Server, which in this case is the SBServer.

Hi Henry,

Thank you for the reply. But, why does the installation ask for the Outlook
CD? I tought it was for setup sbs client and not for using outlook on the
server.

Sorry, I misunderstood.
Thought you wanted to install outlook on the server, not create a client
install point.

First issue is that you should use the Outlook that comes with SBS 2000
(or the SP CD) - that's all that SBS 2000 is licensed to install for
CALd Users ( not XP ) ( if you have Licenses for Office XP for -all-
clients then you can setup the Rollout with that. otherwise you should
install Outlook XP only for licensed machines / users )

You can then copy all the Install files to a folder under
SBServer\Clientapps.

...Can't tell you if this will automatically configure and install
Outlook as it does when you do it as part of the Initial Install. There
are some config and Mod Files required for autoloading and configuring
outlook to the User Account automatically.

Re-running the Computer Setup wizard allows you to add the Software to
the computer ( you can also add additional software from install points
to the list of available software )

It may just create a shortcut icon on the user desktop that the user
will need to click to begin the install.

( ...don't have access to an SBS2K at the moment to give you more
detailed instructions ).

Hi Marina,

Thank you for the tip. Howeve, when I receive this message "Insert the
Microsoft Outlook 2002 Disk or point to the MIcrosoft Outlook 2002 file may
be found", I can conitune. Doesn't matter which folder I select (I have a XP
CD in D). Are you sure that I can install Office XP in the SBS (I don't have
Outlook 2002 CD)? If yes, how?

1. Outlook 2002: I downloaded SBS 2000 from MSDN. They are three CDs. Which
one holds Outlook 2002? I can't find Outlook 2002 in MSDN downlaod.

2. Office XP: I do have License for XP. How do you do Rollout?

3. Add additional software: How do you do that. I re-run sbs setup, but
can't find the option to install other software.

Thanks.

If you're using MSDN then why are you using SBS 2000 Instead of SBS 2003
?
( Note: MSDN is not licensed for Production - even in house production -
if you want to do that then get the Action Pack )

For MSDN you need to use the Office Outlook.
Sounds like it's going to best and quickest to for you to just do local
installs.

Are you asking "Can I install workstation applications on my server?"
Generally people do not recommend installing workstation applications
on your SBS. If your SBS is SBS 2000 with SBS SP1 it comes with
Outlook 2002 which is by default installed in the client apps folder.
You may be missing the Outlook 2002 cd that came with your SBS SP1
software.

There are sometimes issues when people load Outlook on a server. The
Outlook install can overwrite some dlls that Exchange uses. This can
cause problems.
