The recovery console is asked for, I believe, if you run the recovery
console off of the boot CD or if you have already installed it on the
computer and call it at the boot choice.
It will scan the computer for valid windows installations and let you choose
which one you want to access (if there is only one it will list it and you
must type 1 to access it)
It will then ask for the regular administrator password.
thenyour in with a command ype prompt.

okay cheers
what i mean is at what point in the SBS installation does it ask for the
recovery console password?
or does it use the same as the admin password?
is there a way to change the recovery console password?
i found this article
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/239803
but it doesnt mention SBS, although it should still work

Hi Monkey,
In SBS 2000 the recovery admin password is asked for at the beginning of the
AD install. This password is not the same as the current admin password.

After the Small Business Server Setup Wizard starts and after you enter
the On the Domain Information it asks fro the password as it promotes
the server to a Domain Controller.

Re: Recovery console password question |

If I'm on the same page, ..yes.
Note though that it's not locked to the Admin Password, so if you change
the Admin Password it is -not- automatically updated as well.
Had this issue recently, and fortunately the user's change log was being
maintained and the old Password was listed.
