SBS2000 Exchange data is growing so that there is less than 4Gb left in C:
(Disc is 40Gb)

What is safe to remove ie: Can I simply delete most of the thousands of E000
txt log files of 5120 kb?

Entire system is backed up daily, isnt this supposed to flush log files?

Any other recommended Exchange compaction/reduction tips?

I suspect you are not doing an Exchange aware backup. What software are you
using?

DO NOT DELETE the .log files. As Mal has responded, those .log files are
indicating that you are NOT doing a proper, Exchange aware, backup of your
server. Doing so will automatically remove those .log files!

Please review the following for more info and help:

As noted by the others, these logs will clear if you do an Exchange aware
backup. That is your best option. If you get into a pinch, you can enable
circular logging in Exchange and this will reduce those log files greatly.
Please note, for recovery purposes in case of a disaster, circular logging
is not recommended. However, it will commit the current logs to the
Exchange database and get rid of the excess until you can properly setup an
Exchange aware backup.

Hi Byron,

Lets go ahead and make sure that Antivirus software which
is installed on your server is not scanning following
folders :-
1. winnt/system32/inetsrv
2. program files/exchsrvr

Once it is done than you can delete all files except
priv1.edb, priv1.stm, pub1.edb and pub1.stm(these are your
database files) in MDBDATA Folder but you will need to
stop MSExchangeIS service inorder to delete all files.
After deleting .log and .chk files start MSExchangeIS
service and then mount your stores..everything should be
fine then.

you can contact me at: karanrustagi@hotmail.com for any
further help

Thanks, I am using Symantec 8.0 and had not exclded those directories. Will
see if that makes the difference!
BTW, The backup is the generic SBS utility. Is this not exchange aware? or
does it need to be configured as such?

Thanks Guys, success, combo of the AV and the Exchange aware backup reduced
the MDBDATA Directory from 21Gb to 2Gb.

Appreciate all the helpers...
