Does NTBackup in SBS2000 do an online backup of SQL databases. Can anyone
tell me what is the best way to back up a database in SBS2000

No, ntbackup only backs up online Exchange.

The very best way is to buy some software like Veritas or ARCServe.

Anyway you can create backup jobs from SQL Enterprise Admin...

No, you'll need to use SQL Backup to create a backup. You cna back-up
to disk and then use NTBackup to take the Sql Backup file to tape. You
can also run Sql Log file backups to allow for "point in time"
recovery. Sql Backup + log file backup from (whatever time) you can
restore to (whatever time)point in time.

Sql Backup will allow for any schedule you want to run. hourly daily
monthly etc. You can have a daily job PLUS a monthly job to automate
month end back-ups for archive.

You can get lots of details in microsoft.public.sqlserver
