Network Relocation Questions |

We are going to be moving our network to another office
and the plan is this:
- Keep old network(SBS2000) going until we get a T-1
connection at the new office.(about 45 days)
- Set a temporary layout in the new office because there
are some people already working there.
For this new office we ordered new server(SBS2003) and new
Workstations. I would like to start configurating this new
server and even make it active just for storing
files,print server, DHCP and and accessing the INternet.
Questions:
1- Could I do this using the same domain name in the new
server as the one active(SBS2000) in the old office? I
will not be using Exchange and we do not host our web site
locally. Then when the old server is completely shut down
I just update the MX records to the new one and start
fully using the new server
Is this reasoning OK? |

If you are not using Exchange, why are you messing with the MX records?

Yes you could do that. The only adventure is moving the Exchange
database over. That is not a big deal either. You can either Exmerge
it or "forklift" it. Forklift is kind of neat as Exmerge takes time.
Forklift take a few minutes. You can Google this group for that word
to see what I mean in greater detail.
