workstation suddenly loses connection |
|
|
One of our clients has the following network configuration :
Small Business Server 2000 (installed on a high end PC)
switch -> brand : Planet ; model : FNSW-2401
A dozen of win XP workstations, a couple of win2000 workstations
One of the workstations (a brand new one with winXP SP2) has the
following issues :
After an amount of time (sometimes a couple of minutes, sometimes a
couple of hours), the client suddenly loses its connection with the
SBS server. A ping to the server results in a time-out. However, we
are still able to ping the other clients on the network...
And now it gets bizarre :
After pinging another client on the network, the connection to the
server gets re-established...
Not only pinging another client restores the client-server connection,
also the following procedures result in a restored network connection:
- plug out the network connector at the "bad" client and plug it back
in
- disable the NIC of the "bad" client and enable it again
- reboot the "bad" client
We've already performed the following actions :
* Updated nic drivers of "bad" client
* Windows update of the "bad" client
* Checked the network-cabling
* Rebooted the SBS-server
Still, the problem remaines. We are getting quite desperate, so every
help is very appreciated...Thanks |

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;138365 might
be a solution. I did a google search for autodisconnect if you want
more articles.

Also if this is a 10/100/1000 card in the system try forcing it to 100. We
had a system that had an issue similar to this and forcing it to 100 made
the problem go away.
