Post file migration performance problem |
|
|
[This follow-up was posted to microsoft.public.windows.server.migration
and a copy was sent to the cited author.]
After completing the migration of file shares using the MS File Server
Migration Wizard, performance for clients on the target server became
extremely variable depending on the type of mapping used at the client.
Users who had mapped a network drive saw excellent performance while
users who had added the server via their "My Network Places" were
dramatically slower when navigating between folders...even to the point
of freezing the explorer window.
Event logs for FRS and DNS show no errors. There is an excess of
network bandwidth. The target server is a domain controller on the same
domain as the source server.
Any thoughts on where to look or what the issue might be would be
appreciated. |

Hello,
According to your description, it is more like a networking issue. However
you can try the suggestions below to check.
Suggestion 1:
=========================================================
Please make sure the clients are now accessing shares on the new server.
One possible cause of your issue is , the folders in My Network Places on
client computers are not migrated to the new server. They are still pointed
to the old server.
Suggestion 2:
===========================================================
You can also try \\<server name> or \\<server IP> to access the server
share and see if there are speed differences.
Hope it helps. It the problem persists, please post it in the
microsoft.public.windows.networking queue for more accurate suggestions.
Best regards,

There is always a noticable difference in speed when accessing a network
share through a UNC path (through My Network Places) compared to mapping the
share to a drive letter.
