is there painless Exchange 5.5 migration to SBS 2003? |

Hi there. I am planning to move our NT4/Exchange 5.5 mailboxes and
users to a SBS 2003 server.
I will have a new server for our SBS 2003.
What is the best way to move everything to SBS?
The last time I did it, I used the SBS user migration tool and then
used Active Directory Connector to migrate the data and recipients from
NT/5.5 to the SBS box..... But since I couldn't keep the domain AND had
to
give the server a new name we had to:
disjoin each PC from the old domain
join each PC to the new domain
substitute the old user profile in place of the new one so the user
would have their old Desktop, etc (had to give user local Admin rights
to make this work)
reconfigure Outlook to point to the new server name....etc etc etc
I want to avoid these hassles. The last time wasn't bad, only NT
computers. This time there
will be 30. Did I miss learning an easier way to migrate?
Should I do an inplace upgrade to 2K first on the Exchange5.5 server
then migrate to SBS 2003?
The Exchange Server is the NT4 PDC, we also have a file server that is
a BDC.
I have all the spare hardware I could need, then I have Exchange 2000
eval software, I have Win2000 server, I have Win2003. I can make a
temporary server, could I use it somehow to make this easier?
Thank you for any suggestions!

Hi Barry,
Thanks for your posting here.
We have a very good step-by-step document on how to migrate from SBS 4.5 to
Small Business Server 2003.
Migrating from Small Business Server 4.5 or Windows NT Server 4.0 to
Windows Small Business Server 2003

In addition, you can also post your questions to the following news groups:
microsoft.public.backoffice.smallbiz
The above news groups are dedicated to SBS-related issues. I believe that
you can get informative suggestions there.
Have a nice day!
