I would like to add a 2003 web edition server to an existing 4.0 domain. I
know the best way to do it would be to upgrade the 4.0 server to 2003 but I
would like the less painful (and less timely) route since this really isn't
in my job description to be doing this!

Thanks for any advice you can give me, if I can even do it!

Hello Tom,

In my opinion, adding a windows 2003 web edition to a Windows NT4.0 domain
as a member server is practical. You don't have to upgrade the NT domain to
Windows 2003 domain.

Note: Windows 2003 web edition is specially used for Web serving and
hosting, so it has many limitations. For example, a server running Windows
Server 2003, Web Edition cannot be established as a domain controller.

You can have more information about windows 2003 web edition with the help
of the following article.

roddocs/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/WindowsServ/2003/stan
dard/proddocs/en-us/Web_Server_overview.asp

Any updates, let us get in touch!

Best regards,

Frances He
