In-place upgrade information? |
|
|
Hi,
I'm trying to find information on upgrading a Win2k PDC to a Win2k3 PDC
in-place using the existing box. Most of the migration info I'm finding
talks about installing a Win2k3 member server, installing AD, etc. The
environment that I'm going to upgrade isn't that large-- just the one Win2k
PDC box, so I need to upgrade that machine to Win2k3. Any resources on this
would be greatly appreciated...
thanks,
Shane |

Hi
The way I would go about this upgrade would be as follows.
1. Run winnt32 /checkupgradeonly from the Server 2003 cd to make sure all
applications are compatible.
2. Perform system state backup and verify it is good.
3. Run Winnt32 to upgrade from Windows 2000 to Server 2003.
And of course also test this before you apply it to your production enviroment
I found this article to helpful http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325379
Good Luck

Hello Shane,
In addition to the information Jjhols has offered, I would like to add two
points:
1. Please perform a full backup before you take any action.
2. Please run "ADPREP /FORESTPREP" and "ADPREP /DOMAINPREP" as described in
the following article below. This step upgrades the existing Windows 2000
forest and domain to ensure that they contain the additional objects,
attributes and permissions necessary to support the Windows Server 2003
Active Directory environment.
