File and Folder Permissions |
|
|
Hi everyone,
I have this share on my fileserver that I want to set special permsisions
for my users.
I want my users to be able to do anything except delete files/folders and
change permisions in that folder
Is there any way to do that or at least some explanation why I cannot do it.
I pretty much tried everything with no success.
I set special permissions by unchecking the Delete, Delete Subfolders and
Files, Change Permissions
and Take Ownership. The problem is that I can create new folders but cannot
rename them.
When try to save a file this msgbox comes up saying 'This file is on a
network drive with create but not modify priviledges'. I hit ok and the save
dialog is still there even though the file is saved.
If I try to save it again Windows prompts me if I want to overwrite the
existing file ( It was saved the first time even though the save dialog did
not close) and when I say ok it overwrites the file but also creates a
temporary file 'TMPxxx.tmp.' where xxx is a number.
I am really confused. I would appreciate any help. |

Have you made sure that you have set the Sharing permissions so that they
can Change? The permissions have to match for Sharing and NTFS security.

From what I can tell, renaming requires that the user have modify
permissions. What may work is if you give creator owner modify permisions.
When a user creates a file they will be the owner and will be able to rename
and delete their own files but not the files that they did not create or are
owner of. --- Steve
