Moving towards a domain setup! |
|
|
Our company is growing and we've out grown our workgroup set up.
I have two domain controllers running now and I want to put our users and
our servers on to the domain. I have a file server and a app server both
running win2003. Should I first add the servers to the domain than go from
pc to pc and ad the users? Or should I add the users to the domain first
than join the file server and the app server? I realize i'm going to have to
copy all the users profiles over to the new domain profile on their
particular pc which is going to be a PITA!
Any suggestions on how to do this?
THANKS

Matt,
I've always preferred the approach of gathering and deploying all the
resources I think I will need first (so in this case, I would add the file
server and the app server before adding the users). Then I would select
some representative users and trial my deployment process. In this way, I
could determine whether I had overlooked something (including the need for
an additional resource) or whether there was something that I could automate
to help reduce the burden of full roll-out. After reviewing the
feedback/observations from the trial, only then would I proceed to the full
roll-out (so the users would be added last).
Not the only way it could be done but that was my approach in my previous
career. Hope this helps. Thanks.

Will all my users permissions to various folders on the two servers be lost
when I join the servers to the domain?
Thanks
