Thanks to Torgeir for help with Missing CScript Engine |
|
|
To all,
After searching a few thousand posts here, and didn't find my error message, I Goggled for a cscript problem and found a post somewhere by Torgeir. (Well, duh?) He posts everywhere, right?
I was executing CSCRIPT.EXE on a Command Prompt on a newly installed WinXP machine at work. The error message was, "There is no script engine for this file extension ".vbs"". Huh?
And typically, the KB has the error message but no solution except..... "Please enter the correct engine." Ok. How?
After Goggleling, I found the answer at:
http://www.webfrustration.com/archive/87/2003/05/2/21920
And the answer for anyone else with this problem is to right-click and Install the "WSF.inf" file in windir\system32\inf.
So, many thanks to Torgeir, who has saved my rear just a few times before. If I ever get away to the Great White European North (GWEN), I will personally buy Torgeir all the akevitt he can put in his reindeer sled, where we will let Rudolf do the flying.
Cheers,

Always try the MS KB first before posting.
MS KB: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;KBHOWTO
And the answer could have already been posted, so try searching this and other newsgroups first.
