hi!

If i got a Network Printer with NIC build in, is it a must to install the
printer software/server on a PC/server? Can i just send the print job
directly to the printer(physical printer) instead of going through a
print server(driver/software)?

Thks!

You can install the printer as a local printer, using newly created TCP/IP
printer port. Printer installation wizard allows you to create such port,
select standard tcp/ip port, and type either IP address or domain name of
your printserver, according to its NIC's configuration. After installation,
you can share this printer for others to use as usual.

hi!

Does that meant that i can disconnect the PC that was used to install the
printer from the network after i've set up the ip and created a port for that
netowrk printer?

Thks!

Nope, because the port is created and the printer is installed on a
particular computer. By "printer" here and above I mean a logical object
configured in the OS that allows you to perform printing tasks. That object
is associated with and linked to (through a printer port) a "printing
device", which is the physical device that does printing.
You can, however, user the same printing device from more than one computer.
Either by configuring a printer (for network one - as described above) and
then sharing it for all users access - but then you have to keep the
computer where you installed the printer (this computer is called a "print
server" under this terminilogy) up and running and accessible for all
computers. OR, you can install the same printing device as a local printer
(yet linked through a network IP port) on multiple computers.
