Disabling the Shut Down button in XP |
|
|
I'd like to disable the shut down button for all users, except anyone using a
laptop. I can disable it through the User Configuration GPO, but there's no
corresponding setting for Computer Configuration. So as it is now any user
logging onto the domain doesn't get the Shut Down button, including users
that are logged onto laptops. Since the laptop users are mobile and
typically login to the domain using cached credentials when not connected to
the network, the policy sticks with them and they are unable to shutdown the
laptop (command-line shutdown does work though). Can I script this to say
that "the policy should be enforced for all users except if the user is
logging onto a laptop"? Thanks for any help! |

Simplest would be to place your laptops in an OU that is exempt from the
policy.

You might use WMI-filtering on your GPO. Assuming you have a Win2003
Domain.
