Hi,

i made a DFS root, and when i tried to remove it completely, i got the error
message: "The indicated server share does not support the indicated dfs
namespace".
dfsutil said it's system error 2665.

how can i COMPLETELY remove the existing (ad integrated) DFS root, so i can
rebuild a new dfs root on that server?

thx a lot in advance and already a horribly great new year! :)

Hi!

You can use adsiedit and look into your domain partition, system,
dfs-configuration.

Look for your "once" created DFS root...

Can you tell us what OS are you using? W2k i presume?...

Hope it helps!

Hello Nian!

the OS is indeed W2K SP4, on the domain cipkmo.be(CIPKMO).

also weird is that when i start dfsgui.msc, it appears emtpy, but when i add
the created dfs root \\cipkmo\profiles$, it appears in the list, but is
unavailable when i try to remove it.

i've already checked the domain - system - dfs configuration container with
adsiedit, but it's completely empty...
or do i have to do something special to see the content of the dfs config
container?

also, i removed all the entries in (after a backup of that portion of) the
registry that contain info about the dfs share; then i get an error about
missing stuff about the share, so that's not the way...

thx again,

Serge

Are you running as a user with domain admin privileges? DfsUtil.exe
should be able to clean up old configurations.

Hi!

Have you tried using the Dfsutil /clean command?

That usually solves the issue has Richard has pointed.

Hello Renato, Richard,

The DFSUTIL /CLEAN didn't do the trick at first, but after a reboot of the
server, it worked. It seems to have been a weird combination of things(?)

Thx a lot, and have a great new year's eve!

greetz,

Serge
