How to Restart IIS 7 ?

Restarting IIS will restart all sites and applications and thus clear all sessions and in-memory data from the sites on the server being managed by IIS, so you should first consider:

  • Recycling the App pool of the service you wish to restart : This can be done by clicking Application Pools in the left pane of the IIS Management Console, selecting the pool to recycle in the center pane and clicking the Recycle… link in the right pane.
  • Restarting the Application : Expand the Sites tree in the left pane of the IIS Management Console , right click the application and select Manage Web Site > Restart

If neither of these is sufficient then you can restart IIS by clicking on the relevant server in the left pane of the management console and clicking Restart in the right pane.
